Scarfs

I finally met a complete stranger who covers! And we had a discussion like.  Turns out she is very good family friends with my best friend… So that was a bit of a coincidence.
I’ve been wrapping more regularly.  Recently purchased a few items from the Wrapunzel store, including my scarf in the picture below.  I also purchased the no-slip head band which is a miracle in itself.

Church

Lately I’ve been covering my hair only for church.  This whole summer, if I am not at work, I am at home.  I don’t usually cover at home because we don’t usually have guests!  So, I look forward to covering for Sundays.  I almost always get compliments… Even today a lady asked me how I kept everything on my head, and next week she will be bringing her own scarf and I’ll show her how to cover.  So this is exciting!

Day….

I lost track of everything.  During clinical I wasn’t allowed to wear anything on my head, lest I demonstrate that my school is “unprofessional”.  Then I got used to it again and was running around in public with my hair uncovered.
I don’t usually cover at work because I’m simply not brave enough yet… Also it gets really hot and they don’t have air conditioning. I usually try to wear a headband, but I keep getting headaches lately.
Which brings me to another point, its hard to cover my hair in the tichel style when it hurts to have it up in a simple pony-tail, let alone with the weight of a scarf.
This is what I’ve been wearing lately, if I am not in work or at the gym (I don’t really know what to do about the gym one…)

Day Eighty-nine

Just wrote my first (and disastrous) final exam.  One more to go.  This is how I word my scarf since they still aren’t very keen about things being worn on one’s head during exam… So I just let it slide off my head while I wrote…
Sun is starting to show 🙂

Day Seventy-four

Some church-y days 🙂

The reverend at my church loves my scarves… The other ladies in the choir always compliment them..  I was nervous about wearing them to church, but they seem to go well with the choir uniform 😉

PS: I do have arms, I just put them behind me not realizing the full sleeves..

Day Sixty-four

Crazy church days~

So I joined the choir at church, since I am too intimidated by the organ (I prefer piano, and yes! there is a difference), I opted for the second best thing.  The thing is, unlucky my church back home, the choir wears these white robes with a black robe underneath, so I had no idea what I was going to do about my scarf.  Well, anyways, I did wear it, for the third week in a row now 😀 I’m wearing purple as it is the colour of mourning during this season of Lent.  (I’ll have a picture with the robe sometime.. Heh).

Why I won’t give up sugar for Lent

Fellow Passengers

Picture4 It starts with the slide of the door along carpet. The little footsteps. My glance at the clock proves right – it’s too early to be up.

Anger rolls over beside me, rubbing its eyes.

We eat breakfast, and the yogurt is the wrong color. The wind is sending ghostly whips of snow across the yard. The twins wake up in the middle of my first cup of coffee, owlish and out of sorts. The laundry pile has reached epic proportions. There’s enough milk for one more bowl of cereal.

Anger simmers, waiting.

And then it happens. My toddler and I square off against something meaningless – not wanting to wear pants, giving up her nook, taking something from her baby sisters.

Anger EXPLODES.

I fear this ever-present emotion that overtakes me most days. Honestly, it makes me want to give up. Until today. Because today, I’m deciding to give…

Day Fifty-one

Tomorrow is shrove Tuesday.  I looked it up and apparently “shrove” loosely translates into “confess”, which is the last thing I thought about on the day before Lent.  People used to gather together for the last meal before Lent, eating rich and yummy foods (red meat, sweets, fats, dairy, etc).  Then, during the Lenten season, abstain from these pleasure-giving foods… As well as other pleasure-giving activities.  A lot of people still do this today, usually giving up things like coffee or chocolate.  What I haven’t seen being done is “shrove”, confessions of wrongs they need to repent or areas in their spiritual life they would like to grow.  My church suggested to try to “bring something on” this lent, offering Wednesday services and meals, as well as small groups to discuss how we can individually grow stronger in our relationship with God.

Personally, I am going to try my best to keep my head covered (51 days and I am already struggling, haha) with actual scarves, not just little head bands.  I want to set aside some time (even just ten minutes) to pray with God in the morning and try to read scripture during the evenings.  I also want to try to give up cursing (which anyone who knows me would say that this isn’t a problem.. But they’re seen me driving alone in my car) and try to slow my temper.  To approach people with their dignity in mind.  And to give up sweets 😉

Day Forty-Six

Hopefully this sunshine and this scarf are going to help me get through the rest of winter.  I am so tired of the snow and canceled school and power outage and the COLD!  Come on summer!!

On another note….
The Anglican churches of my community and those surrounding had “vocationstation” this weekend.  While I still don’t actually know what that means, I did learn this (among other things):

Matthew 13:45“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

I, and most other people, thought that the the merchant was us humans who, upon finding God, gave up everything in our lives to be with Him.  But the speaker of vocation told us to try and turn it around;  What if it is really God as the merchant, who found us, His pearl(s), and gave up everything (His Son) to have us… …because He loves us so much?
